Geometry Formulas
Geometry formulas are equations used to calculate the perimeter, area, surface area, and volume of two- and three-dimensional shapes. This page is a complete, verified reference — every formula comes with a worked example, a live explorer you can drag, and a one-click printable formula sheet.

Frequently asked questions
What are the basic geometry formulas?
The basics are area A = s² (square), A = ½bh (triangle), A = πr² (circle); perimeter P = 4s or 2(l + w); volume V = lwh (box), V = πr²h (cylinder), V = 4⁄3·πr³ (sphere); and the Pythagorean theorem a² + b² = c².
What is the distance formula?
The distance between points (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂) is d = √((x₂ − x₁)² + (y₂ − y₁)²). It comes from the Pythagorean theorem applied to the horizontal and vertical gaps.
What is the area of a circle?
The area of a circle is A = πr², pi times the radius squared. For a circle of radius 5, the area is π × 25 ≈ 78.54 square units.
What is the volume of a sphere?
A sphere’s volume is V = 4⁄3·πr³. For radius 3, that is 4⁄3·π·27 = 36π ≈ 113.10 cubic units. Its surface area is 4πr².
How do you find the volume of a cone?
A cone’s volume is V = ⅓πr²h — one third of a cylinder with the same base and height. With radius 3 and height 4, V = 12π ≈ 37.70 cubic units.
